Homemade Soft Pretzels

Delicious homemade soft pretzels that are easy to make and perfect for a snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
  3. Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water in a shallow pan.
  6. Shape the dough into pretzels and dip each into the baking soda solution.
  7. Place on the prepared baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For added flavor, try sprinkling some garlic powder on top before baking.
  • These pretzels are best enjoyed warm out of the oven.
